Education Services

Education is our world’s greatest tool, our nation’s backbone, and our community’s guiding light. It promotes our greatest strengths of economic, social and personal growth while also preventing our greatest ills of poverty, crime and disaffection. Perhaps, no other Casa program offers more long term benefits to our community than the Pa’Lante Education Program.

A Little about Casa Guadalupe’s Pa’Lante Education Program

Casa Guadalupe’s After-School Education Program provides after-school tutoring and activities for students in elementary, middle and high school.  Our project based curriculum focuses on student-centered, real-world problem solving and hands-on learning. Casa students benefit from one-on-one tutoring, mentoring and homework help from local college students and Casa staff. The classes teach language, reading, social studies, culture, art and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education.

The children receive lessons on financial literacy and computer literacy. They also have the opportunity to use the Casa Library, donated by Judith’s Reading Room. In addition, the students experience hands-on learning activities, team building, and enjoy educational field trips.

Casa’s Entrepreneurship curriculum encourages creative thinking and problem solving, in which the students are learning core subjects through a business model.  The students have looked at different areas, including the Food Industry, Textile Industry, Publishing and Entertainment/Arts. The program takes the group through creating an actual business plan that they will use to guide them in creating a product. The students  research the industry and explore what possible products can be developed in that industry. They look at all of the aspects of a business plan including product creation, marketing, budgeting and sales. The high school students act as CEOs of the companies and the middle school students have roles in creation, marketing, and other areas. The students are  able to learn the importance of business both on a local and global level.

This past year, Casa Guadalupe Education  included a new and exciting focus. We now have a STEM Program where the students are engaged in a curriculum driven by problem solving, discovery and exploratory learning that requires students to actively engage a situation in order to find its solution. We have developed partnerships with the Da Vinci Science Center, the Wildlands Conservancy and other STEM related organizations that aide us in implementing our STEM Program. Through this program, we are able to promote engagement in STEM concepts and careers. Positive experiences with STEM topics  keep students motivated to continue learning about topics and careers in these fields. These opportunities  allow students to practice skills needed for a 21st century workforce including creativity, innovation, problem solving, collaboration, and communication. Our education program has and will continue to empower our students to move forward and advance!
